In 2013 I was honored to be invited to read at Del Mar College’s quite distinguished reading series. But I am told I broke the camera and nothing but memory and good feelings remained of that day. The wonderful poet Alan Berecka asked me to fill in the gap in the college’s video library during the pandemic, as the college, in that dire time, kept spirits up by posting their old recordings. Here are four poems.

This is a video reading of the complete book, Last Work. Thanks to Andis Applewhite for design of the book and permission to use images from the last paintings by Neal Adams. Neal was diagnosed with cancer and painted these works in the final months of his life. Neal was my high school friend and college roommate and life long friend. This book and reading is a tribute to his imagination, talent, faith, and courage.

After my book As Long As We Need was published, Cindy Huyser (a really fine Austin Poet) asked me to read at one of the best poetry venues in Austin, Bookwoman Bookstore. Then to make the night even more special, Philip R. Fagan sat on the front row and filmed my reading.

Here is a video of my poem "Three Teslas," which sort of commemorates my having a stet installed in my Lower Anterior Descending Artery, sometimes called "the widow maker."

This is the first 20 minutes of a reading at Malvern Books, Austin, Texas, November 5, 2017. I read four poems from the new book, Old Men on Tuesday Mornings, published by Alamo Bay Press. The poems are "Old Men on Tuesday Mornings," "Open Carry," Part 6 of "Ode American," and "Fat Man Olympiad."

This is part two of the book launch for Old Men on Tuesday Mornings. In this part, John Lee, John McElhenney, Bill Jeffers join me in sharing poems from our writing group. The reading was held at Malvern Books, in Austin, Texas, on November 5, 2017.

Just as a note: I don't really think of myself as a "Beat Poet." I have always been much more conventional, but, as most people, I have read many of the Beat Poets, and have included elements of the beat poetics in my poems, especially my poems from the mid-90's, which these two poems are.
